The Unconditional Love Of Pets

What a year this has been. 2020 has brought with it challenges for all of us. There is no doubt that there are lots of things that we should all be worried about, but we can’t forget about our four legged family members. Especially those pets that don’t have homes. If you have a pet, you know how much love they add to your life and to your home. Last year we told you about the loss of one of our pets, Holly. She was a Basset Hound who we all loved so much. Shortly after Holly passed, of course we were sad for a while and eventually grew to miss the love in our home because she was there. After some time passed we felt the need to add to our family. You know that unconditional love and emotional support that can only come from a pet. If you’ve ever had pets, you know what we are talking about. We still miss Holly to this day. In that blog post we talked about Holly being adopted from the Houston Humane Society. She brought so much love into our home and event though she was a timid, nervous pet she would still show love in ways that we never knew imaginable. There is something to be said, when you adopt a pet, to earn their trust. When that moment happens, you never forget it. Holly trusted us, was a happy pet and grew to the old age of 13, which for a Bassett Hound, is a nice long life. Adopting a pet, you know it will love you and be loyal, no matter what. Pets give us something that we all need in life. A companion that doesn’t judge us, gives us unconditional love, who we love unconditionally and the opportunity to give and get joy everyday. Especially during this extremely stressful time in our country, loving on a pet helps to release a chemical in our body called Oxycotcin which gives us a lasting feeling of calm and safety. Much like when your children hug or want to be near you when they have a bad dream.

Covid-19 has amplified the need at the Houston Humane Society. They are in need of families willing to adopt pets and are in need of funds to help them to continue to do the great work they need to do to rescue and take on pets who do not have a home. The Humane Society has as a GREAT adoption plan and a variety of pets that will most definitely bring love into your home. To adopt a pet, first you need to fill out an adoption application, they will then reach out to you to talk you through what your family is like and answer any questions you might have. The Humane Society, like many other non-profits is also really feeling the financial pinch that we are all going through because of the virus.
